Evergreen International Airlines to Begin Air Cargo Flights Between United States and Japan

McMinnville, OR—Evergreen International Airlines (Evergreen) will begin Boeing 747 freighter service between Japan and the United States on Sunday, June 5, 2005. The first flight will take off from Nagoya, Japan (NGO) at 12 p.m. local. This inauguration of service follows a decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation to award Evergreen the authority to provide scheduled all-cargo service between Nagoya, Japan and the United States.

According to Delford M. Smith, Evergreen chairman and founder, the airline will commence operations twice a week between Nagoya, Japan and Columbus, Ohio. To support these operations, Evergreen has established new offices in Columbus, Nagoya and Tokyo.

Evergreen’s new service offers their customers, including major freight forwarders, all the advantages of the central locations of both Nagoya and Columbus. Evergreen's flights will serve Nagoya's new Chubu International Airport (NGO), which opened on February 17, 2005. The city of Nagoya is located halfway between Tokyo and Osaka in the Chubu region, which is recognized as the center of auto and electronic manufacturing in Japan. Columbus is the gateway to the Midwest, and Rickenbacker International Airport’s (LCK) unprecedented geographic location, tools and expertise allow access to the global marketplace. Columbus is within a one-day truck drive to more of the U.S. population than any other city in the United States or Canada.

Evergreen has served the Transpacific market for over three decades. Tim Wahlberg, President of Evergreen International Airlines, stated, "We have a customer base in Asia that has been supporting us since the 1980s and they are the driving force behind Evergreen’s expansion into Japan." Other Asian sales offices include Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul and Singapore.

"Evergreen is excited about this opportunity to expand its scheduled flights to include Japan, and to provide its customers with time-definite services from Nagoya's new, efficient, and centrally located airport," added Ranjit Seth, Senior Vice President of Sales. "Our service to Japan will be an important part of Evergreen's plans for expanded services between Asia and the United States."
